Nov 2016 –
We had a golden opportunity this month to interact with the subject heads of ACJC with a little team bonding session at Flor Patisserie. The purpose of the session was to discuss how teachers today, through education can raise a more entrepreneurial generation.
As Patissiers, we work with our energies pumped and communicate best via cakes, so we got the teachers doing! Chef Heidi engaged the teachers by conducting a simple yet fun hands-on session of Swiss Roll assembly, sharing the tricks of rolling a good roll and tips on piping and décor. From the laughter, smiles and encouragement that filled the cafe, you could say every teacher was indeed once a student!☺ it was quite the afternoon.
At the end of the 2 hour session, everyone got to take home their personalised Swiss Roll creation and a nugget of wisdom or two on how we can only advise the next generation with the knowledge we gained from our own experience and ultimately the best way to groom the future generation is whole-hearted support in wherever their passions lie.
If you are keen experience a unique and customised team-bonding session as well, do email your enquiries to email@example.com
Sep 2016 – An evening with Francis Theo. We were honoured to be the host venue of his first solo exhibition and book launch of Pulau Ubin – The Last Frontier featuring sketches of sights in Pulau Ubin.
May / June 2016 – Melissa Tan of Paintinks.by.melt held her first solo exhibition Shades of Happy at Flor Patisserie. She also conducted a doodling session where she drew lovely portraits of customers and their mums for $5 with any purchase of cakes at Flor. Proceeds of this fun-filled event went to Uncle Khoe’s K9 Shelter. It’s always good to give back to our community.
Showing a strong love for animals and a total disregard for perspective, the illustrations of Melissa Tan, better known as Paintinks by melt, exhibit a whimsical and delightful quality. Find out more: http://www.paintinks-by-melt.com/
Mar / Apr 2016 – Other than workshops, Flor supports local artists and invite them to display their artworks on our walls for a month or two. We were honoured to meet with Winnie Wong – a banker by day and professional artist whenever she finds the time. “What the songs have taught me” was a unique insight on how Winnie combined her love for music and art. Winnie also conducted two art therapy workshops – Art therapy is an incredibly basic, yet effective way to calm your emotions and thoughts, which was very well received judging by the full house for both sessions.
Dec 2015 / Jan 2016 – During the festive season, we were much attracted to that talented illustration works of Yvonne of E’von LeAngelis S that helped brighten the place. She held her exhibition – The Bear and his Human at Flor Patisserie. She even conducted a workshop with our customers, drawing with them for the afternoon. Find out more: http://evonleangelis.com/
Nov 2015 – Natalie Tang of Tangmow Photos shared with us the beautiful inspirations and secrets behind her photos with focus of children taken mostly during her solo travels to Cambodia and Papua New Guinea showcasing some of the different faces and smiles of children.
“You can have the best camera, but if you do not train your eye to see the beauty in people’s everyday lives, you will not be able to capture a photo that communicates with your audience.”
This was the one sentence that Natalie especially took away from her early days while learning from a mentor, and have till today, based her photography style on. Having travelled alone to numerous countries with her camera, where she explored different ways to bring out the emotions in her pictures.
